Boulder, Colorado is a thriving modern city in the Rocky Mountain foothills, and its vibrant Downtown district features more than 1,000 businesses set against the dramatic backdrop of the Flatirons’ jagged rock formations. Downtown homes include elegant Victorian and contemporary apartments and condominiums. Boulder’s Whittier neighborhood covers a little over half a square mile and is home to around 4,000 people. As one of Boulder’s original residential neighborhoods, it has quiet tree-lined streets lined with attractive classic architecture. Whittier is characterized by single-family homes in Bungalow, Craftsman, and Victorian styles with beautiful gardens and landscaping. Mapleton Hill is located to Whittier’s west. This charming neighborhood features many well-preserved Victorian and Queen Anne homes built at the turn of the 20th century. Much of Mapleton Hill is a designated historic district, and its properties offer some of Boulder’s largest lot sizes. All three neighborhoods offer a walkable lifestyle within easy reach of good schools, green parks, and plentiful shopping and dining.

Pearl Street Mall in Downtown Boulder’s main commercial district. This pedestrian shopping mall covers four blocks and offers a great diversity of locally run businesses. Retailers include boutiques such as Weekends for stylish menswear and womenswear, Goori Bros for hats and headwear, and Buffalo Exchange for trendy vintage items. Trident is a combined bookstore and café that hosts author readings, plays, and other fun events.

The eclectic Pearl Street dining scene includes fine dining on French-inspired fare at Brassiere Ten Ten and Northern Italian-style food and wine at Frasca. SALT, Black Cat, and Oak each emphasize locally sourced ingredients for their creative farm-to-table offerings of New American cuisine. You can also sample Boulder’s booming craft beer scene at Pearl Street brewpubs such as Mountain Sun. The city’s lively music scene sees Mountain Sun and other Pearl Street nightlife spots hosting frequent performances. Top touring music and comedy act regularly hit the stage at Downtown’s Fox Theatre and the historic 1906 Boulder Theater.

The gorgeous historic homes lining Mapleton Hill’s historic district make it a wonderful neighborhood to explore. Some notable properties include the Squires-Tourtellot House on Spruce Street, which was built in 1865 and is the oldest home in Boulder. The dramatic surrounding mountains offer an abundance of outdoor recreation with many scenic hiking and biking trails. Homes within these neighborhoods are also within easy reach of many parks. Chautauqua Park is one of many picturesque green spaces near Downtown Boulder with access to trails.

Residents of these neighborhoods enjoy a choice of excellent public schools operated by the Boulder Valley School District.
